Audio Story
If there is one project I’ve created that I am most proud of, it is by far this one. My freshman year of college I enrolled in a course that investigates the biology behind happiness. The following year, the professor that teaches that course, David McCormick, generously agreed to meet with me for an interview about a practice he engages in and shares with his students: sound bath meditation. I interviewed and recorded Professor McCormick’s ritual and intentions behind his consistent practice of sound bath meditation, followed by audio clips of him performing a sound bath. I then set out to challenge myself to tell a story solely through audio.
Nervous about conveying an impactful story without the aid of visuals, I spent hours locked in a dark computer room editing and reediting the same audio clips. After weeks of revising, I surprised myself by creating not only a project I am proud of, but one that evokes the one thing I hope to find in any given piece of creative work: emotion.
